Roy’s Orb is an alternative country outfit with influences ranging from traditional music and outlaw country to modern bossa nova and freak folk. Common comparisons include Bill Callahan, Timber TImbre, Silver Jews, and Lee Hazelwood. A focus on Ryan’s storytelling puts the lyrics in the forefront while Brian, currently pursuing a doctorate in drumming education, puts a body around the skeletal compositions.
Roy’s Orb is a music project formed in 2021 by Ryan Carr, a third generation country musician from northern Georgia. Ryan began playing banjo to learn old country songs as his dad, country musician Ronny Carr’s health declined during lockdown. This led to a reborn love of songwriting and storytelling with a different focus than previous music projects while fighting through addiction and mental health struggles, which are often topics touched on in Roy’s Orb music.
Ryan met Brian Tremper (Jimmy Timbre, Jackson Holte & The Highway Patrol) while living in Missoula, Montana in 2014 and formed an experimental folk project called Cairns. Cairns recorded two albums before disbanding in 2019. The first Roy’s Orb record was tracked in Brian(drums, guitars, harmonies) and Hope Radford’s (fiddle, harmonies) home and art space in Colorado, Mayfly Studio during the winter of 2024. The three of them along with Sirona Isle (vocals) created Seven Stories From The Country, the first Roy’s Orb record.
A New Orleans based outdoor guide and educator, Ryan is interested in environmental restoration and connecting individuals with their local ecosystems and bringing nature into more daily lives through storytelling, music, and shared experience all around the country.
Roy’s Orb and it’s predecessor Cairns have performed at many festivals including Camp Daze, Island Jam Festival, Makeshift Art Festival, and Julia Louis Dreyfest while touring across the United States multiple times. We have performed alongside many incredible musicians such as Spirit of the Beehive, Algiers, Empath, Mega Bog, Matt Talbot, Olive Klug, Jackson and The Janks, Calvin Johnson, Mommy Long Legs, Great Grandpa, Chris Acker, Tall Tall Trees, Gabby’s World, and Bellows.
